| I am responsible for providing quality instruction for each student to meet the objectives of the course and to be successful in their education. This includes teaching students in three genres: personal narrative, profile, and argumentative essays, and implementing lessons/assignments in how to use writing and reading for inquiry, thinking and communication.Writing Fundamentals (7 courses)

I follow a professional format in all communication with students, which includes email, class discussions, grades, weekly feedback, and administrative communication. My goal is to create an open learning environment where students are encouraged to work interdependently toward writing excellence. I implement rubrics, readings, and personal experience to teach effective creative writing. Creative Writing (4 courses) 2006-2007 University of Louisiana, Baton Rouge, LA Graduate English Instructor I designed a Service-Learning course for students to provide community service in such a way as to gain further understanding of primary and secondary research, as well as to prepare them for the kinds of writing tasks they would meet in their academic, professional, and personal lives. Along with those objectives the students involved in Service-Learning became more informed and engaged citizens and developed ideas about what it means to be educated and how education functions in society. First Year Writing (2 courses) First Year Writing with Service Learning (1 course) 2005 Writing Center Tutor, Portland State University, Portland, OR Volunteered as a tutor, helping students with their writing assignments, essays, applications and college resumes. The students ranged in a variety of ages, experience and writing aptitudes; many were ESL students. I worked one on one with students, instructing them in how to recognize their errors, correct their errors, and how to access the resources available to them in the writing center, library and on campus. 2002 Second Language Teacher, English Institute of China Instructed and implemented the course curriculum in a Summer ESL program in Chengdu, China. Designed creative material (monologues, plays, and songs) as well as followed course guides and material. |
